The First Post (actually)

About a year ago I began this blog. I intended for this space to be one of reflection and growth within my classroom and role as STEM leader in my school. I thought I would have time, mental space, and job security to “verbally” process my practice, lessons, and learnings. I did not have any of those things. Circumstances forced me to reconsider and in doing that, I have learned more this year than I have in all of my career in education. With this in mind, I need to reintroduce myself.

Who am I?

I am an instructional coach for a district in Southern Arizona. I have taught grades 1-8 with a focus on STEM in the middle grades. I have a passion for sense-making and equity in STEM and I believe equitable schools require a true systems shift. I am committed to participating in actions that change the landscape of possibilities for our systems outcomes and I’m continuously learning what those actions might be.

Why this blog?

This year has been full of adjustments and I keep coming back to this idea of musing and reflecting out loud. I intend for this space to have more questions than answers; more unfinished and raw reflections than unwavering truths. I want to illicit thought in whoever reads these words and perhaps touch on a question and experience that you have but didn’t yet know how to put into words. I don’t know it all and I don’t intend to- I do intend to keep feeling and adjusting to the systems I’m part of and navigate my space in them. You’re welcome to join as I learn out loud.
